You certainly wouldn’t be seen wearing a pair of shoes that you have selected for an ensemble that were made out of plastic fake leather and the same logic should prevail when you are selecting your luggage they you are going to travel with. Leather is timeless and just never goes out of style, so while it may cost a bit more on the front end it will save you lots of money by delivering a lifetime of service.

Still another reason to choose leather when selecting your travel luggage is that leather is a natural product and you can trust that the garments that you are going to wear are well protected in durable set of leather luggage. You can find leather luggage in a wide variety of price ranges and leather luggage comes with all of the features that any other luggage would have, including convenient telescopic handles and retracting wheels for easy transport.

There are many types of leather that are used in the manufacture of leather luggage and you may want to familiarize yourselof with them before you make your final selection. Why settle for second best when you can be seen traveling with a fine set of leather luggage that will always have you looking your stylish best when you are out in public.

After you bring home your new set of leather luggage, there are few things that you will want to bear in mind with regards to its treatment. Never store it in a overly dry or harsh environment. You may also want to bear in mind that mice will nibble on it if it stored out in a garage or any place where they can have access to it. If it ever gets wet then you will want to towel dry it and then leave it in a cool room to dry immediately.

Zero Halliburton has reinvented travel with the new lightweight luggage designed of Polycarbonate. The Zero Halliburton aluminum business and travel cases were introduced to the world nearly 70 years ago. To this day, they continue to stand proudly as an American icon in terms of product design and brand quality. These new Polycarbonate cases are flexible and light, yet strong enough to secure your valuables and clothing against damage and rough handling by common carriers. You can feel good and you do not need to worry about rough handling when traveling by plane, boat, bus and train with this new luggage. This polycarbonate luggage is durable and dependable. Manufactured by the premier manufacturer of aluminum hard-side cases, these cases are great looking and tough. They come complete with integrated TSA locks that can be easily opened by airport security when necessary. These are the only locks allowed by TSA for air travel.

All of the cases have the classic and function-driven “double-bars” design. These are built into the exterior design of their business cases and luggage and are recognized throughout the world as pillars of strength and protection. The 19” and 21” carry on style cases have two wheels. There are also four multidirectional wheels on the 21”, 24”, 27” and 29” styles. This is four custom-designed wheels positioned at the corners to allow for traditional two wheel or four wheel pulling or pushing. The four wheel system allows you to walk along beside your luggage. This is extremely handy when going through a crowded area. The 27″ and 29″ sizes also have a removable packing suiter included. The 21″ carry on size is constructed with two super-alloy wheels for easy trolley style maneuvering through busy travel terminals. All of your travel accessories will fit comfortably inside these roomy cases. All three sizes have a 2″ zippered expansion for bringing home important purchases, souvenirs and more. Of course, all of your travel accessories will comfortably fit inside these roomy cases.

These “ Zeroller” cases have many features. Besides the extremely durable trolley system, there are heavy-duty side and top carrying handles. The TSA locking system is an integrated part of the case. The reinforced wheels are engineered for heavy travel packing. There is state of the art super-polycarbonate dual exterior shell technology and fully lined, stain resistant interior fabric. The free wheeling system allows you to make rolling through a parking lot, the airport terminal, train station or the aisle a breeze. The laundry bag inside the case makes it easy to pack dirty clothing away from your clean items. The 9010 alloy polycarbonate shell provides lightweight, super durable enclosure with solid color all the way through. The available colors are bright, shiny black, silver and red. The shiny finish on these bags stand out on every luggage carousel. These cases can be used for corporate gifts and company logos or individual initials can be personalized on a separate leather tag.

For a limited time, there’s a removable trifold suiter garment bag in the carry on. This creates individual packing options and efficiency. It also provides additional mesh pockets, as well as a tie pocket. This trifold suiter reduces wrinkles in blouses, shirts, suits, trousers and skirts. David Nelson asked:

Do you have nice luggage that you would like to protect?

Like nice clothing, good luggage should be considered an investment. And, like all investments, your luggage needs to be taken care of…so, here are 3 tips on how to take better care of your bags when you are away from home…

To begin with, when you travel, many jet set travelers want to look as good as possible & showing  off your luggage is one way to do so. However,  your luggage is like a car… you want to balance fashion with maintenance. While it may be nice to look good in it, the best cars need to be maintained too… luggage is no different…

1)To begin with, consider taping up those loose zippers & pockets so that your luggage is protected on the plane. A lot of luggage gets mishandled when it’s thrown around by air workers & zippers can easily get caught by the different machines & conveyor belts. You don’t want to find out that your new bags have lost 50% of their zippers just a few months after you buy them.  Take steps to protect your bags.

2)File claims with the airline if your luggage DOES get damaged. Many airlines allow you to file claims with them if your luggage gets returned to you severely damaged. Take a look at your bags after you get off your flight. Get whatever is wrong with your bags fixed quick so that they don’t get even more damaged from loose zippers & cuts which can get worse rapidly if they aren’t taken care of.

3)Use a ribbon to mark your bag instead of a magic marker. Yes, it can be confusing to know which bag is yours when it comes off the carousel…

But, if you tie a colored ribbon on your bag to identify it, you will be happier than you’d be with a bag that has giant black marks down the side of it. Invest in $20 worth of ribbon to make your bag stand out for when it comes off of the plane.

Use these 3 tips to keep your bags looking as new as possible & you will be well on your way to looking as good as possible when you travel & saving lots of money too.

Andy Adams asked:

New government rulings on the amount of hand luggage we can take on planes will come into effect from the 7th January 08. This change means that passengers on flights to or from one of 22 UK airports are permitted to carry on more than one item of hand luggage per person.

The one item rule has been in place since August 2006, amidst many terror threats at UK airports the government put in place many restrictions on what passengers could carry on to a plane. These restrictions brought about the one item per person rule but also the kind of item you can safely carry with you, which remains in effect.

This dictated that at one point you were not allowed to bring any liquids onto a flight. Mainly because there were fears that terrorists could bring the necessary components to assemble a bomb/weapon and assemble it in-flight.

Whilst it managed to eliminate this threat there were other groups that were affected, parents bringing small children onboard were not allowed to bring pre-made drinks/food on all flights, this was a shock to parents who would be forced to pour away the bottles they had prepared for a long flight and now had no food for junior!

This ruling was relaxed slightly later on with a limit being put in place rather than an outright ban on liquids, the official limit for these items is now 100ml of each of gels, pastes, food stuffs etc.

But this change is not being rolled out at all UK airports, currently 22 UK airports will be permitting multiple hand luggage items, but some others, notably, London’s Gatwick Airport will not be changing on 7/1/08 due to issues with the Department of Transport.

The Department of Transport has surveyed airports to see if they can handle the added hand luggage whilst maintaining the current added security, without adding to queues. Those that have not been able to meet this requirement, like Gatwick, require additional staff and equipment and will be delaying the introduction of this new ruling.

The airlines themselves are split over this decision though, British Airways is to permit two items of hand luggage per person, Virgin Atlantic is sticking with the policy it has had since before the August ’06 changes; one item for economy and Economy Plus passengers, with allowances for laptops and handbags as well but two items of hand luggage for First Class customers.

Cheap flights operator EasyJet has been reluctant to change their one item policy since there is potential for confusion to the customer as not all airports are supported under this new ruling, EasyJet operates out of 14 UK airports but only 7 have been approved by the Department of Transport.

The main point that the BAA is enforcing is to check with your flights company before leaving to ensure you know what is and isn’t permitted for your journey. At least with this change it’s going to make flying simpler and not having to worry about almost every aspect of flying, making for, hopefully, a relaxing flight to your holiday destination!

Jim Brown asked:

Do you ever put much thought on what to pack on your carry-on luggage? You have to put some thought on what to carry before getting on that plane.

In packing stuff for your carry-on luggage, you might want to bring an extra change of clothes and some form of entertainment like a good book, a portable music player, a game console, etc. to avoid feeling bored during the plane ride. It is recommended that you pack something that would prove to be very useful for you in the next two days in case incidents happen involving the loss or delay of luggage arrival for instance.

There are several important things that you should not forget to bring on your carry-on and making a list of it will help you remember them when packing. Of course, the most obvious would definitely be your plane ticket and passport (if traveling out of the country). Have the necessary contact information of your travel agent and bring proof of your travel insurance as well. Bring along a photocopy of your passport which you could put in your purse or you could give this to your traveling partner if you have one. Other items include your traveler’s checks, medications in their original bottles including the prescription (in case you lose your medication), camera, cellular phone and charger. Kleenex will be useful for wiping spills and for women bring along female sanitary products just in case. If you are traveling with kids, bring along for them some snacks and toys.

There are items that are prohibited to be packed on carry-on luggage. Such items will be confiscated and worst could even prevent you from boarding on your flight. Of course, it is common knowledge that guns, baseball bats, hatchets and knives are strictly prohibited. Other items include metal scissors that have pointed tips, axes, ice picks, razor type blades except safety razors, swords, etc. When in doubt, you can always check with the airline.

Aside from what to pack and what not to pack, you should verify as to the allowable carry-on size your airline allows. While weight can be a factor, certain airlines don’t have any restrictions when it comes to the carry-on luggage weight but then impose restrictions when it comes to the size. You are basically allowed one carry-on luggage and one personal item (purse, laptop bag or a smaller carry-on bag not bigger than 36 inches). Carry-on luggage dimensions may vary from airline to airline but there is a standard of 22″x14″x9″ equal to 45″.

Victor Epand asked:

There are a number of basic mistakes that a lot of people make when packing their luggage for a holiday, and as long as you follow a few simple rules, you should find the experience of carting your worldly possessions halfway round the globe is a perfectly straightforward one. The first thing to think about well in advance is where you are going, and being realistic about the sorts of things you’ll actually need for that location. Is it, for example, quite warm, or a cold climate? Are you likely to be going out to a number of smart occasions or events? Is there any specialist equipment you might need to take?

Once you have a general idea of the kind of equipment and belongings you will need, then it is important to think about the kind of case or bag. Very often people make the mistake of simply carting out the same old suitcase year in year out. Yet it is very unlikely that this one suitcase will be the best one to use. It might well be too big, too small, too cumbersome or too old. Although it is another expense added to the overall cost of the holiday, ensuring you have an appropriate and reliable bag is of tremendous importance.

Well in advance of the holiday it is worth giving consideration to the possibility of reducing your luggage to a single carryon bag. This might seem absurd, and quite possibly might be unrealistic, yet it is surprising how achievable it can be in many instances, and will save you a tremendous headache checking in, checking out and simply carting your luggage with you.

When you are packing your luggage a very good tip to consider is planning how the luggage will fit into the case, bearing in mind three particular points. The first is where the centre of gravity will be. Often people pack all of the heavy items into the suitcase first, and then tip the suitcase up, meaning the heaviest portion is off to the side, and this makes it very difficult to carry the suitcase around.

The second point is about valuable items or delicate items which need to be protected. These should be surrounded by clothes and kept well towards the centre of the bag.

Finally, those items that you will need easy access to, such as tickets, passport, money, keys and so forth, which preferably should have a space of their own, should be both easily accessible by yourself but secure enough to prevent accidental loss or theft.

A final word of advice about packing luggage. Be as ruthless as you can possibly be. The further in advance of your holiday that you do your packing, the more chance you will have of being ruthless. Generally those people that do their packing the day before over pack, and end up struggling with the weight of dozens of unnecessary items that will probably never be worn or seen. Try to consider the value of each item you pack, and discard items where possible that do not allow for flexibility and versatility with other items whilst you are on holiday.

S. Michael Windsor asked:

One of the major issues today with consumers in regards to air travel is the amount of lost baggage. Did you know that over 4 million bags a year are either lost, damaged, or in some cases, both? It is important to think about these things when preparing for take off and included in this article are several tips to help secure your luggage while flying to your destination. First, I’d like to mention that over the holidays years ago my bag was lost when the airline changed gates on my flight. This was not a small change but a change which had us traveling across the entire Houston airport from one side to another before our flight took off in 15 minutes. Not fun. Of course, when we arrived at our destinations much of the people who were in the same situation as myself had lost baggage as well. The lost luggage claim line was quite long that evening at 11pm.

My baggage did arrive, however, about a week later. The only problem was that the baggage from LAX came 90% emptied out. All the Christmas gifts and clothing (even my underwear)…gone. It is a known truth that the airlines do in fact subcontract the baggage returns to your address. Mine was a rather interesting experience where the man called on the phone and told me to leave a note saying it is ok that they leave my bag outside my door if I would not be home whenever they so decided to deliver my bag. This, I believe, is where the problem occurred as I would have rather just picked it up myself from their location, but rather the delivery people did not allow it. I am not sure how this came about but I did learn a valuable lesson. There are many little stipulations that airlines have in regards to getting reimbursed for stolen luggage. First, there are a few things they do not cover.

Items such as jewelry, electronics, furs and negotiable instruments are not covered by the airlines if lost or stolen, so keep those items with you on the plane. Next, every airline may have a different policy and many even give more priority to first class and frequent fliers over everyone else. Once you do receive payment for the stolen items, it is in a depreciated value and a lot of times they will require a receipt (in my case, receipts were required if items were valued $100 or more.) So what can travelers do to protect themselves from baggage problems? There are several things you can do, some more convenient than others. First, and most obvious, would be to simply pack light and take your luggage on the plane with you. Next, would be to take those items that you will need shortly after getting off the plane, such as toiletries and items needed for meetings or gifts for those you may be traveling to visit. Remember those electronic devices, furs, jewelry and the items not covered by the airlines in case something does happen.

Identifying your bag is another important thing to remember if you ever need to file a claim. So, always make sure your name and contact information is located on the outside of your baggage as well as inside in case the tags put on the bags should fall off and the airline needs to reach you. Take a quick picture of your bag before checking in, just in case something is broken off or torn apart during the flight. After you arrive to your destination, take a quick peek inside your bag and make sure nothing was skimmed off the top by thieves with access to your bags. Lastly, if you really do not want to check in bags and have a little extra money, you can always ship the luggage overnight via FedEx or Luggage Concierge. I know it seems a little over the top, but everyone has preferred methods and many people actually pay the $50 or so it costs just to have that peace of mind and their baggage simply delivered to their door. One out of about 150 travelers ever have a problem with a mishandled bag last year. So if there is one thing to remember, it is always a good idea to simply take precautions with your baggage especially during the holidays and have a great flight.

I will be arriving by an international flight to Malpensa and need to get to Milano. I was wondering if it would be possible and/or safe to take my luggage with me (3 pieces) on the Malpensa express. Also, when I reach Cadorna, I have to take the metro and then finally walk about 5 minutes to reach my final place. Would this be possible on the metro and will it be safe?

Anyone had similar experiences?
