FW asked:

I’ve never flown in a plane before and I don’t understand all these terms. Can you explain to me what they mean? I know that every airline has its own rules, but what are some common rules regarding luggage?

When you are going on a trip, whether it is for business or pleasure, one thing that you have to prepare first is your luggage for travel.

How big your luggage should be is always an important thing to consider because different airlines have different policies when it comes to this.

It is a fact that every airline company has luggage restrictions, and you have to abide with these. So before you start packing your things, find out with your airline what these restrictions are.

Although, these restrictions or guidelines may vary from one airline to the next, generally, the limit set for luggage for travel is 16” high, 24” wide, and 9” deep, so it can fit well in the baggage compartment. Another general rule is for smaller bags to be placed under the seat, and larger bags to be kept in the overhead compartment.

If you have a carry-on bag, it should not weigh more than forty pounds, and if you are bringing something that needs to be checked in, your baggage should not exceed 50 to 70 pounds; beyond that, you will have to pay a certain amount.

Some airlines do allow large-sized bags for the first luggage, but additional pieces of luggage will already bear certain limitations. If you are flying first class, you may be allowed to carry more weight than what is usually required.

Most airlines charge $25 for every piece of luggage, however if you pay online before the actual date of your travel, you can pay a lot less, like $10, maybe, for each piece. Then during the actual checking in of your luggage for travel, they will be weighed, and if they turn out to be beyond the weight limit, you will be asked to pay a certain amount.

If your carry-on bag weighs more than the weight limit, you will have to remove some of the items and transfer them to the luggage for check-in, or you will have to submit your carry-on bag to the flight attendant for the duration of the trip.

Keep in mind, too, that some airlines consider laptops as carry-ons, so if you have a carry-on bag, that will count as an extra piece of luggage. Many airlines are strict when it comes to luggage for travel regulations and policies.

So, it is always wise to bring along only the necessary stuffs, and never to overload your luggage for travel.

Jerry Cahill asked:

Luggage can be one bag or a couple of bags which accompany a traveler. It can range from a huge trunk to the ubiquitous suitcases. Small leather or artificial leather bags which can be carried in hand are popular as well. Nowadays, luggage do not mean a drab grey suitcase. There are any number of quality designer luggage that are very popular. They are used by the jet setting crowd regularly and new variations or models are introduced each season.

Louis Vuitton has exquisite collection of real leather luggage. The product range is for both men and women. The garment bag, the excursion bag, garment cover, carryall are some of their products. All the bags are standardized in terms of quality. The carryall bag is really multipurpose and they are roomy. This is helpful when the packer has a lot of things to carry. The excursion bag has a special design that is suitable to carry shoes. The elegance of this bag is a delight. Men have really good luggage from Louis Vuitton. Ivan is a helpful addition to the list of men’s luggage. The bag is quite large and spacious. There are many flaps which helping keepings things in order. They are made with special attention to details. The price range is within the reach of many. The men’s shoe bag is also a delight. The owner of a baseball bag from Louis Vuitton can be object of envy for many. The bag is designed to be a mini locker and if the inside compartments are folded it becomes a traveling bag. The luggage of Louis Vuitton are retailed from their stores all over the world.

Lacoste has a large collection of designer high quality luggage. Their carry-on bag and roller suitcase is very convenient for travelers. The luggage has enough space and that gives the packer the choice to pack all he or she needs in one suitcase instead of carrying more than one suitcase or bag as the case may be. The bags and suitcases are eye catching with lots of details on the look of the luggage. The durability of these cases is another added advantage. This makes them highly economical.

The customer is spoilt for choice when it comes to designer luggage. Pierre Cardin, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Diane von Furstenberg are all established names in designer luggage. The bags and cases are spacious, of high quality, durable and they come in many colours. They price tag is of course steep, but not out of reach for many.

Muttlove asked:

I’m looking into adopting a dog sometime next month, and would like to take it with me on a trip sometime next year. The flight will be about an hour, and I’ve heard very mixed things about how airport workers handle animals as luggage.

I’m unsure of the size of the dog, as I’ve yet to adopt, but I’ve also heard that if a dog is small enough, you can take it on the plane in a cat-size carrier.

Any knowledge on this? If there’s any chance of injury, I’ll just drive up.
