What happens if you miss a flight and your luggage is sent to your destination without you?

I missed a USAirways flight with one connection, but my baggage was sent ahead of me. I may need to book a flight with a different airline now (must arrive at destination as soon as possible). What will happen to my luggage if I fly a different airline? Will it be at my destination?

Yes, I am in airport on hold (for over 20 minutes now) with the airline trying to get this question answered! :-)

    just advance to the office of your airlines and present your ticket explain that you missed your flight and asking to collect your bags if you have a baggage tag present it and they will get you your bags and have a nice next trip all the best
